SCHEDULED ANCIENT MONUMENT

Height OD: 61-67m

This small post-medieval settlement, situated on a low terrace of the Dunbeath Water, consists of two long buildings (B & C), a kiln house with enclosure (A), rigs and a clearance cairn (D). One long house (C) has an extra chamber on the long side, this may be a bed recess or dairy. The fireplace and chimney in the gable end of the building may suggest a late abandonment of the site. This settlement is not marked on Roy's map of 1747-52, but may be 'Clashraven' of a 1789 sasine.

The kilnhouse (pictured) is in good condition, the kiln and house walls standing to a height of 1.5m. The enclosure walls are not so well preserved - they are much lower and in some places completely collapsed.

Kilnhouse (A): 12m long by 6m wide.
Three compartment longhouse (B): 19m long by 5m wide.
