On a very prominent position on the summit of Cnon na Maranaich is a circular turf- and stone-defined cairn which has been much disturbed. A shooting bothy has been constructed just to the NE and several modern cairns have been built from the original cairn material. There is a central hollow in which a line of large slab stones is visible. Standing stone (DB18/07 - foreground in picture) about 5m to SE.

Described by RCAHMS (1911): "On the summit of Cnon na Maranaich, the most conspicuous hill at the lower end of the Dunbeath Strath, are the remains of a large cairn with a standing stone adjacent. The centre of the cairn has been broken into, and two or three large slabs lying displaced suggest a chambered character. The diameter over all is about 60', and the greatest elevation about 7'."
 

Described by Henshall (1963): "The cairn stands on the summit of this conspicuous hill at 562 ft OD. The diameter is about 60 ft and the maximum height 7 ft. It is partially turf-covered, but the centre has been broken into. Amidst the chaos one large upright stone is visible, while a number of other similar slabs lie about. Their number and size strongly suggest the cairn has covered a chamber."
